Manchester United Get Humbled By Liverpool In A 7-0 Loss
The Red Devils lose to their rivals in a humiliating fashion not too long after winning the Carabao Cup.
Manchester United have been beaten by Liverpool in an extraordinarily humiliating 7-0 loss that will not soon be forgotten. While the match may have been incredibly embarrassing for the Manchester side, Liverpool, on the other hand, are quite overjoyed after blowing out their traditional rivals in an incredible performance that was preceded by numerous underwhelming performances for the Merseyside Reds, which would include getting beaten 5-2 in the Champions League by Real Madrid less than two weeks prior to beating United.
Now, the question is this: Were Liverpool just playing incredibly good, or were United playing insanely poorly?
To answer, there are arguments for both.
On one hand, Liverpool played incredibly well, which is something that fans have not seen much of in a season that, for Liverpool’s standards, has been incredibly poor. Of course, that changed very quickly at Anfield, where, Darwin Nunez, for example, went from being seen as a peasant of an attacker compared to the likes of Erling Haaland, to being able to bag two goals against his club’s biggest rivals.
On the other hand, Manchester United were not good. At all. Conceding one or two goals in a single match isn’t usually thought much of as being solely the fault of the defenders, but it takes a special type of poor defending to concede that amount of goals against a team that has been playing such mediocre football all season.
Now, that leads to yet another question: Is it over for United now? Could they possibly recover from such a humiliation? My answer is, in fact, yes. Manchester United have, up to this point, played amazing football up until their loss at Anfield, with even a Carabao Cup to show for their efforts. Marcus Rashford, especially, has been called by many to in fact be the most in form player in world football. It seemed like the Erik Ten Hag era has fully begun, but now, United are playing like the era has already ended.
Obviously, we cannot be sure of how United, or Liverpool, could perform in the coming weeks. Maybe, the status quo that has been apparent all season could stay, with United playing top football while Liverpool play like a team only slightly better than a currently struggling Chelsea. Of course, this match that we have just witnessed may be the beginning of a change, with Liverpool again playing like the title contenders that they were in seasons previous, along with United playing like a proper relegation bound club. We don’t know now, but we will know soon.
So, now it is your turn to make your voice heard. Can United recover from this setback, or will their loss lead to only bigger pain for the Red Devils in the remainder of the season? Vote in the poll below:
